The project advances Altavo’s voice replacement technology and lays the groundwork for a more compact and powerful second-generation device. The technology combines noninvasive sensors with artificial intelligence to detect silent speech movements and convert them into audible speech. Building on the results of the preceding MUSIK project (Multisensor Noninvasive Voice Prosthetics Using AI), which investigated fundamental technological challenges and developed a clinical prototype, MARINA takes the approach further by addressing key requirements for the next generation of devices.
Altavo GmbH and TUD Dresden University of Technology are working together to develop new solutions for hardware miniaturization and integration, as well as high-frequency sensing technology. At the same time, they are advancing AI-based methods for silent speech recognition and speech synthesis. The goal is to achieve more natural-sounding and reliable speech output that can be better adapted to different types of voice and speech disorders. This could open up new clinical applications and ultimately make the technology available to a much broader group of people who have lost their ability to speak.
